The allegations related to the alleged crimes are unrelated to the school
A deputy headmaster of an elementary school was charged with facilitating the rape of a girl under the age of 13.
Julie Morris, who has worked at St. George’s Central Church of England Elementary School in Wigan for around ten years, was arrested on Monday when she appeared in court.
The 44-year-old from Hindley, near Wigan, was charged with assisting in the rape of a girl under the age of 13 and inciting sexual activity with a girl under the age of 13.
Police confirmed she was charged along with 52-year-old David Morris from Eccleston, near St. Helens, on Merseyside, who is accused of raping the child’s victim.
He was charged with triple rape of a girl under 13 and inciting sexual activity in a girl under 13.
David Morris is not Julie Morris’ husband and the couple are not related.
The charges are all believed to have taken place in Eccleston and are unrelated to Ms. Morris’s work as a teacher in Wigan, police said.
Julie Morris, who is a math and religion teacher at St. George’s School, has been suspended from Wigan Council.
In a letter to all parents, Headmaster Grogan said the allegations were “worrying” and “will be a shock to everyone in the school community”.
“It is important to emphasize that the charges related to the alleged crimes are not related to our school,” he added.
He urged parents to be aware of the “active legal process and police investigation”.
Both David Morris and Julie Morris appeared in Liverpool Magistrates’ Court on Monday, September 6th.
The couple were taken into custody to appear before the Liverpool Crown Court on October 4.
A Merseyside Police Department spokesman said they were “working closely with the Greater Manchester Police Department and Wigan Council to ensure that adequate safeguards are in place”.
