Why a Daniel James loan period could benefit both Manchester United and the Welsh international

Despite not scoring a goal or registering an assist, Daniel James enjoyed a stellar Euro 2020 campaign, which was praised by Italian legend Giorgio Chiellini.

The Welsh midfielder has created the most chances in the tournament so far (8) and looked perky on the flanks for Wales.

James’ form will be encouraging for Manchester United fans, especially after a season he was regularly on the sidelines.

Soon James’ attention will return to the club, where he has an uncertain future. With the possible move from Jadon Sancho to Old Trafford, the 23-year-old is moving closer to an important abyss of his young career.

After an explosive start with the Red Devils, hitting the net in three of his first four Premier League games, James struggled to revive that form and gradually fell into the pecking order.

Sancho’s arrival will only complicate his situation. But Euro 2020 and the rare sparks he showed at various points during the last season – including a crucial goal against Newcastle in February – are proof of the Welsh international’s potential.

It’s a potential that Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and Manchester United shouldn’t give up just yet. It takes James minutes to hone his football and show that he belongs to a top club in the Premier League.

At 23, the midfielder still has time on his side and could become a shrewd weapon for the Red Devils.

Given the previously reported interest of a number of Premier League clubs that would consider loaning him out, a temporary absence from Old Trafford could be the best scenario for both parties.

James could thrive in midfield on a Premier League team where he has the coach’s confidence. Leeds United have previously been linked to a possible loan deal and it’s clear Marcelo Bielsa admires Man United’s No.21. But clubs like Southampton, Brighton or even Newcastle United could be a good fit for the winger.

As the recent absences of Joe Willock and Jesse Lingard from their parent clubs have shown, both the club and the player can gain a lot from a loan move.

Not only is the player continuing his development and getting regular playing time, a loan move has the potential to increase James’ price for future applicants in the event United are looking to replace the Welsh international next season.

The Red Devils could get a much nicer figure for the tiny player after a successful season in the Premier League in which James played regular football and stood out than they did after a season in which James was rotten on the bench.

Jesse Lingard proves why loan spells could be beneficial to both the club and players.

On the other hand, if Solskjaer tries to keep him at Old Trafford, Daniel James will hold off a loan period from the club to regain his confidence and he will return to United as a much better player than the one who left.

With a lot of support in midfield and Sancho on the way, a loan period for Daniel James is a win-win for the Red Devils.
