A determined young mother urges the people of Barrow to help the Afghan refugees by donating whatever they can.

Sarah Blain, 30, decided to set up a donation levy because, as a new mom, she felt more emotionally attached to the situation after seeing mothers throwing their children over barbed wire at British troops.

“I was watching the news about what was going on in Afghanistan and I wanted to do something to help,” said the Manchester teacher.

“I looked for ways to help and found Care4Calais, a charity that makes donations for refugees coming to the UK.

“I’ve offered my services to them, but in the meantime I’d like to help by collecting items for donations.

“Since I became a mother and saw videos and pictures of mothers throwing their children over fences so they can escape, I’ve been more affected.

“I wanted to do something more than just donate money because if it was my family and someone I love and they were so scared and went somewhere else to escape and come up with nothing, I would hope someone would help them helps.

“In comparison, my everyday problems seem like a drop in the ocean.”

The Barrow-born woman stated that she is in Barrow to visit his parents and noted that there is no formal donation process in the area.

About what she thinks needs to be donated, she said, “They need clothes, especially men, and other basic items like toiletries.

“The refugees are isolated in hotels according to Covid guidelines and then stay there until a suitable location is found for them.

“I will also take toys / teddies for the children.

“So if someone wants to donate something, they can email me at sarah4refugees@gmail.com.

“I can accept donations no later than Monday, August 30th.”
