The first dedicated ultra-fast electric (EV) power location in the north west of England has now opened in Manchester – also the first fast electric vehicle-only location in Manchester – in the MFG store in Stretford on Chester Road.

The location is strategically located on the A56 and has eight dedicated ultra-fast 150 kW charging stations for electric vehicles that offer a range of 100 miles in 10 minutes of charging.

Velautham Ravichandran, Contract Manager at MFG Stretford, said: “It is extremely exciting to be able to offer a special ultra-fast charging option for electric vehicles to both our local community and those in transit. We are now well positioned to serve British motorists in this part of Manchester well into the future. ”

In England, over 60% of homes in cities and metropolitan areas have no garages or other off-street parking and must therefore rely on electricity from publicly available networks.

MFG’s investment will improve the infrastructure available to drivers to alleviate range fears and increase driver confidence in electricity as a fuel source, thereby increasing the adoption of electric vehicles.

William Bannister, CEO of MFG added: “We are investing heavily in ultra-fast EV charging stations across the UK, in addition to our existing tank and convenience store network, including recent openings in Bristol and Birmingham and planned openings in Scotland and Wales this year. This is on top of an already significant investment by MFG in London that is leading the way in promoting cleaner cars. ”

MFG is investing in the new future of gas stations, investing around £ 40 million in charging stations for electric vehicles in 2021 alone and investing £ 50 million this year in improving its retail, food-to-go and consumer valeting offerings . This investment will continue across the UK network over the coming years.

In May 2021, a consortium of partners including Pivot Power, Oxford City Council, Fastned, Tesla Superchargers and European electric vehicle charging provider Wenea announced what is expected to be the most powerful electric vehicle charging station in Europe. The site is expected to have 38 fast and ultra-fast EV chargers.
