Manchester has won an application to host a major global digital health conference in 2024.
The International Medical Informatics Association (IMIA) Nursing Informatics International Conference is one of the largest international conferences in this field and takes place every four years.
It attracts hundreds of delegates to share their experiences and catch up on the latest developments and best practices in nursing informatics.
“Manchester is known as a city of innovation that goes back at least to the industrial revolution. More recently, it has played a key role in the digital revolution, driving innovation in health and wellbeing. Home to the first UK nursing professor and birthplace of the UK’s first university degree to focus on nursing, Manchester is the obvious place to host the International Nursing Informatics Congress, ”said Nursing Team lead organizer Nick Hardiker, professor of nursing and Health Informatics at the University of Huddersfield and member of the Executive Committee of the BCS Nursing Specialist Group.
“Computer science is increasingly coming to the fore as a necessary basis for the effective exchange of data and the improvement of patient safety and health outcomes – it is no longer a niche activity, but is quickly integrated into the daily work of nursing staff, midwives and other health professions.
“COVID-19 has seen rapid digitalization in health and social services, and nursing practice environments are no exception. This conference will enable delegates from around the world, from nurses and midwives in the field to high-level academics and political leaders, to learn how to make full use of computer science ethically and efficiently. “
The offer was supported by Manchester Central and Marketing Manchester.
“We are very excited to host the 2024 International Nursing Informatics Congress in Greater Manchester and congratulate the consortium on a successful proposition valued at £ 1.2 million for the local economy,” said Sheona Southern, Managing Director, Marketing Manchester.
“Digital health and innovation are key competencies in Greater Manchester. We are home to several digital and tech incubators and accelerator programs that support scaling and disruptive technology, and this will create an excellent platform for the global nursing informatics community. “
