Andreas Pereira is expected to leave Manchester United either on loan or permanently this summer

Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer says he “couldn’t have asked for more support” from the club after receiving funds to spend more than £ 100m on Raphael Varane and Jadon Sancho.

Solskjaer said United are working to get Varane into the country as soon as possible basically agree on a deal with Real Madrid for the central defender.

The government’s decision to relax quarantine requirements for entry into England from Monday should help expedite the process of medical care for the France international.

Coming so soon after Sancho’s arrival valued at £ 74 million Borussia Dortmund confirmed it will be a good summer for United.

After an entertaining 2-2 draw last season against newly promoted Brentford at Old Trafford, Solskjaer said: “You can’t ask for more support than winning these two as early as possible. It shows the club’s ambition.” One of the most exciting talents in the world and one of the best central defenders in the world.

“We have tried to attract players before and we are in a good position this year.

“Raphael [Varane] is a player we’ve been following for many years. Sir Alex Ferguson was about to sign him. He has won everything there is to be won.

“These two players will make a huge difference for us this season and beyond.”

The youthful striker Anthony Elanga delivered another eye-catching performance, scoring the opener against Brentford, his second goal in consecutive games in preparation.

Solskjaer says he will consider leaving the Swede on loan, although he will first assess the fitness of the rest of his Euro 2020 players, including his English contingent, who are due to return to the club on Monday.

Andreas Pereira also scored with a brilliant 25 yard volley, while Bryan Mbeumo and Shandon Baptiste reached the new level of the Premier League twice.

The United manager said a decision on whether to have surgery on striker Marcus Rashford, which the player thinks he needs but could shut him out for three months, will be made in the next few days.

Solskjaer also announced that a familiar face will return to the training ground over the weekend as Phil Jones, who hasn’t played since January 2020, begins his comeback.

Leicester loses & Spurs win

Tottenham enjoyed their latest pre-season with a comfortable 3-1 win at League One MK Dons.

Dele Alli, Son Heung-min and Lucas Moura all finished their second game in a row – after scoring a net last time Spurs won 3-0 at Colchester.

The Spurs remain undefeated under new boss Nuno Espirito Santo after drawing their summer opener against Leyton Orient.

For Leicester, however, it wasn’t so encouraging that they lost 1-0 at League One Wycombe despite a strong team like Jamie Vardy and new signings Patson Daka and Boubakary Soumare.

The Foxes drew 0-0 against Burton last season as they await their first goal of the summer.

A late goal from Pascal Struijk earned Leeds a 1-1 draw at Blackburn Rovers after winning their first game against Guiseley last time around.

Everton play in the Florida Cup and after a 1-1 draw in their first game against Millonarios on penalties, they defeated Pumas UNAM 1-0.

Italy striker Moise Kean scored the winning goal after being played through by new Toffees signing Demarai Gray.
