Hard to take
Juan Castillo admits he is coming to Birmingham City with a point to prove after disappointing himself last season.
The Chelsea defender will be spending the 2021/2022 season at St Andrew’s in hopes of a better experience than the one he played for three different teams last season.
The Dutch U20 player started pre-season training at his mother club, was loaned to the ambitious AZ Alkmaar, but was recalled after just one appearance and quickly sent back to his homeland to fight ADO Den Haag.
He played there 17 times – but was part of a team that ended the bottom of the Eredivisie and was relegated.
He’s coming to Blues as one of four new loans on loan, aiming to get better both personally and collectively, and trusts Lee Bowyer to do for him what he did for teammate Ian Maatsen of Stamford Bridge last season in Charlton did.

Excitement mounts ahead of Birmingham City’s first full season under head coach Lee Bowyer.
Blues has changed its roster significantly over the summer with three permanent signings and four new loan players.
Bowyer suggested he wasn’t done on the transfer market either, hoping to add to a team that has already been strengthened by Ryan Woods, Chuks Aneke and on loan from Dion Sanderson and Tahith Chong.
In fact, it is the Manchester United youngster’s new signing that gets the most comments after the 21-year-old clashed with his new teammates on Monday.
Blues opened the doors to an open training session on Tuesday, and it was Chong who stood out with his athleticism, poise and delicate touch.
The fans are already looking forward to the Dutch youngster in the blue and white.
One said: “Chong is going to be a total shooter, no idea how we signed him.” Another added: “I look forward to seeing him on the pitch and will be of great help to us.”
