Here are the headlines for the Leeds United night on Friday 13th August.
Gabby Agbonlahor’s bold claim from Leeds
Gabby Agbonlahor has made a bold claim to Leeds United ahead of the season opener against Manchester United on Saturday.
The Whites travel to Old Trafford in the early kick-off and the former Aston Villa striker believes their preparations could see them defeat the Red Devils.
Speaking to Football Insider, Agbonlahor was full of praise for Marcelo Bielsa’s competitive preparation for the season as they faced Ajax and Real Betis, among others.
“If I were a manager I would want to test my team against the best,” he said. “You will get more out of it when the opponent is tougher.
“That will do you good to play Man United away in the first game of the season. It wouldn’t surprise me at all if Leeds went and beat them. “

Illan Mesler’s first words after signing a new contract
France U-21 and Leeds United goalkeeper Illan Meslier has spoken after signing a brand new five-year deal with Elland Road.
His most recent deal with the Whites will keep him at the club until 2026, protecting his worth as one of the most sought-after young players in European football.
Meslier spoke about Chelsea’s interest before joining Leeds United, while Paris Saint-Germain was also drawn to the prospect of signing the 21-year-old goalkeeper.
The likelihood of Meslier leaving Leeds United for less than a stratospheric fee is now minimal with the signing of his latest deal.
Speaking to the Leeds official media during a walking tour of Elland Road, Meslier said, “I’m so proud, you know. I am very happy to be signing a new contract in Leeds. [it’s] a great club. “

United missed important deadline to sign Raphael Varane for Leeds clash
Manchester United have missed the Premier League deadline for Raphael Varane to make his debut against Leeds United on Saturday.
The Whites will travel to Old Trafford for kick-off at lunchtime on Saturday to begin their Premier League campaign.
While Leeds is nearly full, United will have to forego several first-team players due to their long appearances at Euro 2020.
Marcus Rashford is out after shoulder surgery, although Jadon Sancho could make his debut and replace his English team-mate.
One player who doesn’t appear to be on Old Trafford’s pitch is Varane, who was announced as a Manchester United player weeks ago after a fundamental deal was struck with Real Madrid.
