Wigan Athletics striker Charlie Wyke has recognized coach Leam Richardson and club doctor Jonathan Tobin for saving his life after suffering cardiac arrest in training.
The 28-year-old left the hospital on Thursday, 10 days after the incident, during a training session at the club’s training base.
He was immediately cared for by Richardson and Tobin before being admitted to the Royal Albert Edward Infirmary in Wigan and later transferred to the Liverpool Heart and Chest Hospital.
The player’s shock heart attack became the third high profile footballer to suffer health complications in a week.
Sheffield United midfielder John Fleck was hospitalized after collapsing while his team won in Reading while Sheriff Tiraspol forward Adama Traore had his chest down during his team’s Champions League match against Real Madrid went.

Fleck returned to Blades training this week while Wyke outlined his ambitions to return to training in the New Year – but he needs to rest first while his recovery continues.
The striker has undergone subsequent testing and surveillance by experienced medical professionals, as well as the club’s medical staff, and has been fitted with an implantable defibrillator to aid his recovery.
In an open letter to supporters posted on the club’s website, Wyke said, “First and foremost, I would like to express my sincere to the club’s medical staff and the NHS staff who have looked after me since my last hospitalization Express appreciation week.
“I especially want to Dr. Mentioning Rob Cooper of Liverpool Heart and Chest Hospital for everything he’s done for me in the last week or so.
“It is important to me to tell my story to our supporters and the general public, because my life was saved by the deeds of the top illuminator.” [Leam Richardson] and the club doctor Jonathan Tobin, and my story could save another life.

“As you know, I collapsed during training on Monday. I was in cardiac arrest and needed CPR and was told that it was just the top light’s quick response to start the resuscitation process and then the doc’s continuation that saved my life.
“I will forever be grateful that because of your actions – and those of my teammates and others – I am here to share this experience.
Fortunately, the training ground staff had received CPR training a few weeks ago which, with the response of the top light to my breakdown and the initiation of CPR on the training ground, clearly proved to be lifesaving.
“I think that shows how important it is for coaches and staff to have this training.
“The support from my teammates over the past few days has been incredible; The gesture of celebrating with my shirt in Plymouth only shows what a top group we have here at Wigan.

“I’ve heard the fans sing my name when I’ve seen the games from the hospital, which was amazing – I’m really grateful for the support.
“I have received thousands of messages from fans of all the clubs I’ve played for, the football community and beyond, and the congratulations meant the world to me and my family.
“It was a real boost for me to see the photo of my former teammates in Sunderland wishing me all the best – a class touch from a great group of guys.
“I look forward to going home to my son, my partner, and my friends and family in the next few days.
“Can’t wait to go back to the training ground next week to see the guys where I’ll start some light workout that starts the process of hopefully being able to train fully with the team again next year.

Wyke has scored many goals with Carlisle United and Bradford City in the Football League, while scoring 42 goals in three seasons with Sunderland before joining Wigan this year.
The incident follows Sergio Agüero’s health complications for Barcelona – which resulted in the former Manchester City striker being sidelined for at least three months.
This summer’s European Championship was overshadowed by the traumatic collapse of Danish playmaker Christian Eriksen in his nation’s opening game against Finland – the Inter star has not played since then.
