KIERAN Lee believes Wanderers will have to take more responsibility for their waste in front of goal, starting with the weekend game against Wigan Athletic.
The formidable midfielder was one of the players who missed golden opportunities in the weekend defeat at his ex-club Sheffield Wednesday.
Only Rotherham United have had more shots on goal than Bolton this season, according to Opta Stats, and their open-play xG is third in the premier league behind Oxford United and Sunderland.
Despite all the hymns of praise for the Wanderers’ style of play, Lee admits that he missed too many points due to a lack of recklessness in front of goal.
“I don’t feel like there has been a game where anyone was better than us, but we are disappointed with some results,” he said before visiting the Latics on Saturday.
“We would like to be higher in the table, but we just have to keep going.
“I think you can see where the problem is right now, we’re not taking the risk. And they are also good, not half-chances.
“It’s hard to take, but we just have to keep going.”
Lee has put himself in good shape after missing parts of the pre-season due to injury and starting the season behind Josh Sheehan in the pecking order in midfield.
The 33-year-old is feeling confident after the last three league games but also supports Welsh international Sheehan to fight his way back into the reckoning in the coming weeks.
“At the beginning of the season I jumped in every now and then, got a few minutes, but now I’ve got a little run on the team, I’ve got a little bit of self-confidence,” he said. “I have a feeling that I am doing just fine.
“Every player is like that. It’s harder to get in and then go out again. And I know there is a lot of competition in this midfield. Josh was unlucky not to be playing right now.
“I just want to keep playing and we’re all good friends. We’ve been in football long enough so we know we’ll all get the opportunity. ”
