Asda expands product offering in Derby and Wigan stores

British supermarket chain Asda will transform its Derby and Wigan stores into “new retail destinations” with the addition of 13 fashion and lifestyle brands.

The retailer has partnered with major UK brands including Rawr Beauty, New Look, Missguided, Maximuscle, My Protein and Lee Wrangler.

The two stores will feature dedicated zones for these brands and a new “fitness zone” with equipment, clothing and sports supplements, as well as a branded toy aisle with products from LOL and Hot Wheels among other brands.

Matt Harrison, Senior Director of Asda Partnerships, said, “Customers in Derby and Wigan can now purchase our largest selection of partner brands ever in a single store, whether they’re looking for an outfit for an evening out or a toy for a birthday present, they can find all in one place.

“As life is getting hectic again, our flagship stores offer shoppers in Derby and Wigan the opportunity to get what they need quickly and conveniently in one place.”

The move is part of Asda’s partnership strategy to create “flagship” affiliate stores that offer customers bigger products and better services.

This year the company started offering B&Q, The Entertainer, Greggs, Claire’s and Pre-loved products in additional stores.

In addition, another 16 to 20 lifestyle brands are planned for this year.

Asda recently reported a 0.7% decrease in like-for-like sales (LFL) in the second quarter of the year, excluding fuel sales, year over year.

The company’s two-year LFL sales excluding fuel rose 3.1% from Q2 2019.

The retailer also announced plans to expand into the convenience market in partnership with the EG Group.

This follows the successful test of five Asda On the Move stores at petrol station locations of the EG Group last October.
