Adrian Lam has admitted that each of his three assistant coaches could potentially move up and coach a Super League club in the future, while speculation rises that one of them might succeed him as the next head coach for the Wigan Warriors.

Matty Peet has long been linked to the role since it became clear that Lam would not be staying at the club beyond this season. Wigan owner Ian Lenagan recently admitted that Peet was one of the options the club wanted to take over from Lam.

And the current Wigan coach said that while leaving any decision up to the club alone, any of the great Peet, John Winder or Warriors, Sean O’Loughlin, could potentially coach the club in the future.

“What I’m really proud of here are the people who have worked with me,” he said.

“I currently have eleven employees who were all excellent and would do a great job in any role.

“Matty, John and Sean could all coach Super League clubs in their day. I was proud of them and if that is an option for the club, so be it. They will make up their minds and agree on it in the near future. ” . “

Lam also addressed speculation linking Wigan to a game for Wakefield half-back Jacob Miller. The Australian will remain under contract with Trinity for the next season, meaning any move will be subject to a transfer fee, but Lam appeared to downplay that conversation on Wednesday.

“Our club is always connected to players and it’s no different,” said Lam. “If there is anything to add over time, we will say something, but there was no movement on my side or on the side of the club.”

Wigan will look to solidify fourth place in the Super League this weekend when they travel to Hull FC. The Warriors will be leaving Oliver Gildart until kick-off to prove his fitness after missing the Magic Weekend loss to Warrington, and doubts remain about Jai Field’s availability.

“Jai sustained a gnawing injury to his groin that is connected to his lower back and hamstring,” Lam revealed. “This is being judged day by day and we will make that decision as we get closer to Saturday.

“It’s a turning point in our season I think. We’ve worked hard to get back into the semi-final mentality and we’ve crawled back into that state without worrying about what’s next for me It is important that I hold on to “the end of my time here.” I want to go out as successfully as possible. “
