New research has found the top rated independent breweries in the UK – and one nearby in Manchester has taken the top spot.

Manchester itself is the UK’s second best beer making location with over 1,300 beers from six breweries with an average Google rating of 4.63 out of five.

Great Britain has a long and storied history of beer. Records show that the first beer brewed in Britain dates back to 100 AD and some of the oldest registered companies in the country are breweries.

More recently, the UK has seen an explosion in craft breweries. In 2018, of 2,274 active breweries in the UK, 1,978 were microbreweries, nearly 90%.

With so much to choose from, South Western Railway has gathered all the data to bring you the ultimate ranking of the UK’s best independent breweries so you can figure out where to start wetting your pipe.

Based on data from Google, RateBeer and the Society of Independent Brewers, they have created a map of the definitive guide to the craft beer scene in the UK.

The top spot is taken by Cloudwater Brew Co. on the Piccadilly Trading Estate in Manchester.

According to the data, they have a rating of 4.6 on Google and have produced 816 beers.

You’re also one of only three to get 5 out of 5 for a beer on RateBeer.

The average alcohol content (ABV) of the top-rated beers is a whopping 7% – the beer with the highest percentage in the study is Manchester’s Cloudwater A Great Many Breaths (12.70%)

It was founded in 2014 and in February 2015 the company’s first beers were brewed.

Since then they have produced hundreds of different beers and are constantly “looking for higher quality beer”.

According to their company website, they are inspired by the community when they create their product, “creating beer for moments with friends and loved ones and accompanying quiet breaks and jovial sociability while relaxing and unwinding”.

They added: “Our intent is to support and nurture the food, drink and creative communities in Manchester, showcase the passion for innovation and ambition in the North and help Britain honor tradition while keeping borders to transcend and develop the taste through modernity, seasonal beer. ”

For those who are still ordering, the Cloudwater Brew Company currently has a variety of beers on their online shop, including a range of IPAs, as well as a chocolatier-inspired stout made with coffee, cocoa, and ancho chilli.

You’re not the only ones on the list; Dive in to find out what the UK’s craft beer hotspots are, faster than you can say, “A refreshingly pale, hoppy palate with a persistently pleasant malty finish.”
