The new additions to Manchester United’s squad have bolstered options for both future and defensive positions, but the club have yet to sell a single player with only three weeks of the summer transfer window left.

United’s chief writer Samuel Luckhurst spoke to Tyrone Marshall on a Facebook Live Monday afternoon to discuss the latest transfer news.

Luckhurst reiterated that while United made two marquee commitments that delighted Old Trafford believers, the Red Devils have made no significant moves in terms of spending:

“The squad size is still bloated, it has been reduced as (Axel) Tuanzebe was loaned out, which would always happen to (Raphael) Varane.

“I think the squad is manageable at the moment because the players who are unlikely to come on the bench over the weekend you don’t look at them and think there’s a headline there. I mean, it’s not about thinking that there is a heading, there is no heading.

“There are players who are injured, there are players who are isolating or, in the case of Dean Henderson, are still exhausted because they tested positive for Covid-19 almost four weeks ago. The squad size for this month should be okay, even if it is too big because there are “a number of problems there.”

“I think the squad is developing pretty well but there will still be three busy weeks ahead because they still haven’t sold a single player, which in itself is a failure and if they go all summer without anyone to sell that just goes beyond that. ” Really believe, although it is a difficult market and a slow market. “

Solskjaer has consistently emphasized the importance of having a big squad and with Jesse Lingard and Diogo Dalot both on loan in the 2020/21 season, impressive pre-season performances for the Red Devils have been a valid argument to say that players like this strengthen the roster and provide the all-important depth.

After 72 games last season, it is clear that United would benefit from a wider range of players to choose from in the 2021-22 season in hopes of securing Solskjaer’s very first silver piece as United manager.

United could use additional options in certain areas, but Luckhurst believes further additions will depend heavily on who goes to the exit door at Old Trafford.

“I actually think Solskjaer is real when he says that getting another signing will be a bonus. I think United fans must be grateful to have two marquee signings in (Jadon) Sancho and (Raphaël) Varane, which means you’ll always be lucky enough to land another significant signing.

“My gut feeling is that they will get one more significant signing. Don’t ask me if it’s in midfield, as a full-back or even a center-back. I think there might be another one just to keep the squad size up.” is a good size but again it depends on the expenses. I think spending will likely determine what position United aspires to be, if any. “

What is clear is that there is a fine line between a healthy selection of players and individuals in the club who just don’t get enough playing time.

With just three weeks to go before the transfer window and the delicious opener against rivals Leeds United in a few days, United is preparing for a hectic end of August.
